Nice to see you again, Sir Fart, it's good to see your verbal skills haven't diminished with absence; we may have need of your acerbic wit in the near future - I think it's about time we started looking for a team that's ripe for a good tanuting session. The Lord alone knows, we've passed enough in the past few weeks.
Talking of passing, we've moved past the Czechs to 13th in Yoyo, and Sir Brians little marvel should make very short work of BOINC.SK.
Unfortunately, it looks as if BOINC Confederation (RCN) and Canada (Lattice) have woken up to the fact that they're about to become history, so we may have a bit more of a struggle on our hands in those two. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Thanks guys yeasterday just running Spinhenge today Eon(when I can get some work), Milkyway(love that chocolate) Spin and Dimes!
Had some trouble with this PC on Seti if our lads restart the computer after heavy gaming Seti units tended to become corrupted???? so I shy clear of long running WU's. Is it a Vista thing? _________________ Crabbypatty

No, it's a Micro$oft thing, XP does it as well (although Vista is definitely more prone.)
I've had to sit and watch a re-booted Quad-core running Vista go through a 3-day work cache (several hundred shrubs) and error-out every single one of them. Scary sight.

I have a sad duty to perform.
At the start of this crusade I lamented KWSN's lowly position in WCG and vowed to do something about it.
It is with very much regret that I must now postpone that vow, much as it pains me to do so.
Having stuck a nominal 2000 RAC (~20% of the Dentery) onto the project to take KWSN to ~8000/day, careful inspection of the stats reveal that, although we have overtaken Anandtech, we are still 107th (due to MySaoirse going past us at 70,000/day ). We will pass Ro-Community late tomorrow, but then upward progress will halt, and there are at least 4 teams queueing up to overtake us.
To progress further, we need an additional 5,000 to 10,000/day or at least twice our current shrubbing rate, a level I don't think is realisticallly achievable at the moment.
So I feel I must now reluctantly give this project up as a lost cause and apply the crunch to other projects.
I will, however, return at some time in the not too distant future to make good my vow to see KWSN get into (at least) the Top 100.
To Genmed, Sir Shrubbery, Zyclops and all the other WCG shrubbers - keep up the good work.

On a lighter, but still serious note - an invitation.
Congratulations to Ib Rasmussen (Malaria), HoC (Spinhenge) and, yesterday, Winnie (QMC).
You've all knocked me off the top spot in those projects, yet you're all still shrubbing like mad with no-one anywhere near threatening you.
As I won't be shrubbing those projects for a while (and I'll give due notice if I intend to start up again), why don't you apply at least a proportion of those 5,000/day to the projects mentioned in this thread (Lattice*, Tanpaku, Leiden, RCN, Poem & Yoyo are the current favourites).
Any contribution will be extremely valuable in vanquishing the teams who dare stand between us and World Domination.
I call upon you as true Loonie kNi!ghts to do your bit for KWSN. Let your conscience lead you to tread the path to the Holy Grail and eternal** glory.
* Thanks HoC for your contribution here.
** Well, at least until the middle of next week.

I have chosen to focus my attention on a few projects that I think is worthwhile, and do well in them, instead of spreading out my cpu-cycles on any harebrained project that comes up.

Thanks for replying so promptly.
I appreciate and applaud your raison d'etre for shrubbing for the kNi!ghts.
But nothing ventured, nothing gained. It was worth asking.

Even yet more progress.
Lattice: no movement, but Sir ohiomike has joined the Quest at a substantial rate of knots, so advancement is imminent.
MilkyWay: We dropped to a lowly 17th, but are now back up to 16th and on the move (thanks for your contribution Sir Brian)
Poem: now 7th A week or so to Crunchers@Freiburg.
RCN: 30th 6 days to SaR Hessen.
Sudoku: Now we've recaptured our rightful 8th position, with no threats from behind and not much chance of further progress in the near future, I'll be diverting ½ my shrubbing on this one to the other projects. That should leave enough to consolidate our place.
Tanpaku: Should pass both USA & PCPKFrogs tomorrow, then a bit of a haul to AnandTech in 3 weeks or so.
Yoyo: as Sir Brian so succinctly put it, we're now 12th. ~3 weeks to CANAL@Boinc; the top 10 is beckoning - any more PS3s out there?
We're going like a train now, KUTGW kNi!ghts. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Sorry Al, it is just a "blip" while Cosmo was down. But Lattice is a nice back-up project. (It is kind of a pain for me to run some projects, the Linux machines are 64 bit only, I would have to roll a 32 bit version to run a lot of projects. Or boot them into Windows- I have found most projects "don't like" Windows on AMD CPUs). _________________

You've picked one of my pet hates there.
I did a bit of VTU about a year ago, not really knowing what the project did, with no information on the site, but it sounded scientific.
Then I started getting problems with pending credit building up, so I did a bit of digging.
Turns out it was set up my Ivan (can't remember his name, but that'll do for the moment) in Eastern Europe somewhere so that he could learn to program for BOINC. He was deliberately using a very inefficient algorithm to solve a problem for which the solutions were already known, just to generate work.
OK, I could live with that, as the project was probably going to be used for something useful in the future.
What really turned me off though was the fact that my pending had built up because other crunchers had failed with those WU's, but he wasn't sending them out again.
I finally got my last credit granted about a month ago - from WU's I completed in Aug/Sept 2006!!
That was the position a year ago; it may have changed now. If I were you I'd do a bit of digging in the forum to find out what's going on at the moment. Either that, or do what I did; abandon it.

Abadon seems the best and easiest bet I have decided to see what I can do with both cpu's on Milky Way as we do seem well placed to rise up the stats if just a little more help arrives.
May have probs with dimes as well done nothing all day????

the other project that we could make some rapid progress on is Chess360... the work appears to regular but the projects oversubscribed so it looks like there's a constant scramble for work... a bit like Pirates.....

Most of my shrubbers are running 4 or 5 projects, but I've got four running just 3. So I thought, Sir Brian is helping mightily on my suggested projects, let's return the favour and BOINC a bit of Chess. We're currently 35th, there's 8 easy places to gain and the top 20 isn't far away.
So:
to Chess website: Server Status: Account Creation - enabled.
to Boincstats BAM!: Add Project: Account creation - disabled.
back to Chess website: Create account - Account creation is disabled at this time.
Sorry, Sir Brian, I tried. If you happen to notice that account creation is enabled again, let me know (I probably won't remember to keep looking).
