Must admit that I am pretty chuffed at the way this challenge has gone. No invalid or Error WU's passed back to the project. Most of them have been reported back before my wingmen Lol.
The only thing is:
Two days ago I had to take the small tweak off my 6 cores because they started to go to high temperature wise
Was running at 3629.98mhz and temp was steady at 54-57c when it suddenly shot up to 63c and wouldn't drop. Max temp rating for the Phenom 1100T Black edition is 71C. So had to drop it back to 3321.87mhz. Now back down in what I call the safe zone at a steady 54-57C.
Think it must be the warmer weather we are having over here Lol.
Anyone have any experience in water cooling CPU's? If so I would be glad to learn about how to do it as I understand that it keeps the CPU considerably cooler and the machine is much quieter because you can get rid of the CPU fan. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

It might have changed, but I had used Arctic Silver in the past... Kept things nice and cool, with the heatsink I got, which was a Swifteck cooler I think, but was bought sometime back. I did have a number of fans in the server ATX sized tower however...
And yes it's got warmer this year; I've already started using air conditioning... _________________

This is the spec for the processor. It just don't include much info about the fan which comes as part of the package except to say the warranty is null and void if their fan is not used....Humm
Processor Features
- Heatsink, Active (With Heat Sink Fan)
- Integrated Memory Controller
- Fast Hypertransport 3.0 technology
- Cool & Quiet v2.0
- AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) Technology
By the way I have already tried my Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 on it. Temperatures remained about the same so though putting theirs on a good idea because I can actually direct air if needed from an external source straight onto the fan.
With the Freezer 7 it stands so tall that I have to take the air inlet tube off the case so that it fits. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

According to this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134
Quote: | Featuring a 92 mm PWM fan and 6 heatpipes, the Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 offers performance far beyond stock coolers and achieves 130 Watts cooling capacity. |
The PhenomII x6 is rated 125Watts.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0355999
That's cutting it kind of close, even before overclocking. The Thermaltake Frio is rated 220 Watts using 2 fans (I'm using 1). If you have warranty concerns, use the stock cooler and very moderate overclocks, especially if the case isn't well ventilated.

Permission to stand down from the challenge Sir
Mildew hasn't quite got enough hamsters in his shrubber to hold "Get Off My Lawn" back for another 48 hours by which time they will have overtaken us in RNA World. This will drop us back to 55th place. I want to shoot up their evil plan first _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010 After taking off the stock paste and putting some arctic silver, this puppy now runs full 6 cores at 100% at 55-56. _________________

Thanks Altivec
It clearly has some good reviews from people who purchase puter parts from the same place I do:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/cooling/watercooling/corsair/c-cwch50-1.html
Lol its even got a uTube vid on how to fit it
Have you clocked your processor?
If so by how much?
Think I'll think about the options a bit longer before rushing out to buy something new.
Temp range today has been 53-57C with the stock fan provided with the chip. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

The stock coolers are rather often kind of meh, when it comes to cooling things. The truth is, and mention of warranties aside, the manufacturers not all that un-often provide something that is considered "good enough", however isn't really "that great" when it comes to keeping things reasonably cool. They base this on what they consider the typical person's use to be, which could mean anything from just reading email, browsing the web, and using office productivity software, to heavy gaming or doing things that are processor intensive and will push it to it's limits for long periods of time.
Then agaiin, sometimes, what they consider an acceptable temperature can very from what many IT pros might actually agree with. They can essentially say "well we rate it for this temperature", but then it can all come down to a matter of margins in the end; especially if people are doing more then the average home user on that given system.... The stock cooler, though not the best out there, is however cheaper for them to provide.... Now the CPU slot, and how much weight one will place on the bracket is also a consideration, so take a look there also.
BTW, whatever cooler one uses, a lot of the cooler mftg''s like to use thermal tape. It's easier for application, but mediocre for purposes of heat transfer. Get rid of that gunk, use a razor blade (or if you're concerned about scratching the thing) the clean edge (get rid of the outer layer) of an old credit card, to remove it. Then get some 95% pure isopropyl or better, to clean the surface with, as well as the surface of the chip (don't pour the alchohol on your computer Use a queue tip or something of the sort to rub it clean).
After this, make sure you have a good thermal paste, and apply a layer of that, and spread it as indicated to get a good layer of contact between the CPU and the cooler. Attach with that. Thermal tape is garbage for getting some good cooling in there... _________________

Make sure your case can accommodate whatever you decide on first. The large tower heat-sinks are generally 165mm tall. My Thermaltake Element T holds it but with the AM3 socket's position on the motherboard it prevents mounting a normal side fan in the case. Not a problem with the Element T holding my socket 775 motherboard. It's difficult to tell before you have the parts in hand.
My Cooler Master HAF 912 is wider and the side vent is a bit lower, so no problem. My current case of choice.

I like this diamond based thermal compound, diamond has terrific thermal conductivity.

Great Info Nuadormrac and Gem.
Copied this stuff off and into a file so that I can use it as a reference guide quickly and easily
Never thought about using ispropyl alcohol before. Just wondering if Vodka would do the same job as that is the purest alcohol you can get that is non commercial alcohol. I often use it for making things that contain essential oils such as bubble baths and body rubs. Added bonus, you can drink any left over

Then get some 95% pure isopropyl or better, to clean the surface with, as well as the surface of the chip (don't pour the alchohol on your computer Wink Use a queue tip or something of the sort to rub it clean). |
