Maybe they can hire Mike Shanahan, though it would take a lot to do it next season.

Well, OK - any coach in a storm, I guess.

Whereas with soccer, for the most part they just ACT like they're in mortal agony, in order to try to draw a penalty.

True. I have surfed pass a game or 2 where one of the players was on the ground like he was shot. As soon as the ref showed the card for the penalty the guy was a healthy as anyone could be.

That's what a compound fracture is, the bone sticking out. Joe Theisman got one of those.

Not really interested in looking. I suppose your point is that people get hurt playing soccer. Big deal. My wife sprained her ankle walking the dog. So what?

MY point is that you will never, ever see an NFL player act like he'd been murdered when he's barely been touched. I've seen this kind of play acting all over virtually every pro soccer game I've ever watched any significant portion of.

Agreed. There have been countless times where an NFL player had his helmet ripped off his head and he still went headfirst into the pile.

Where as NFL players do often seem to suffer from substance abuse that takes care of their aggression problems. Top that with players ruined by team doctors fixing them up.

Anybody ever seen the David Busst injury, it makes Eduardo's look like play acting.

NFL, guys, is about as much fun as having your teeth, with out anaesthetic, pulled! It's so damn slow you've all become stats freaks to relieve the boredom Razz

The facts speak for themselves, outside the continental US it's just a minority interest.

The NFL may be, in your opinion, "a minority interest: outside the US. That doesn't change the fact that IN the US it is a billion dollar business with a rabid following. Couple that with soccer's "minority interest" in the US and you can see why there is no interest in it here.

My apologies I was unaware the KWSN had become a purely US based team?

I would like to add that it is better to be a minority sport among 300+ million than a minority among 6.5 billion. If by rabid you mean passionate then that goes for all sports followers.

Come over and sit with the home fans at a local derby.Go to the Maracana when Brazil play Argentina the list is endless and global.

Unfounded accusation.

We are debating a sport.

The other day my Red Wings were 16 wins in a row, and I had not seen one.

So I got some beer and sat down to watch them lose in over-time. Crying or Very sad
that was the only game I have watched this year

Unfounded? You do seem to separate the "US" and "here" in that statement".

NFL being a minority interest, here in the UK, has no real support. It can't be taught in schools much because of the Rugby option. Though exhibition matches do always sell out out at Wembley.

If you want to know football's real selling point it is you only need something roundish to play, a ball some, rolled up cloth even a stone will do. That allows even the poorest kids in the world to dream of the riches and fame they could earn if they become good players.

The greatest footballer the world has ever seen learned to play with a sock stuffed with newspaper, tied with a string in the slums Bauru, São Paulo. And his fame really is worldwide.

Where as this side of the water OJ is surely your most recognised NFL star and that hardly makes me want to buy my grandson a egg ball to throw around.

And if you think I'm harsh on NFL you should hear my views on rugby! Razz

Comparing balls?

Not into footy at all - Aussie rules (no armour), rugby league (no armour), American style with armour, English rugby (no armour), or soccer.
Although I can actually sit down and watch a soccer match and enjoy it...not so with any of the others.
They all look like a bunch of ruffians intent on jumping on top of each other to try and grab the balls.
We have a silly game here. They spend most of the time running around with the ball in their hands until they get crash tackled and lose it. If they manage to get a bit of a go they run as fast as they can towards the goal posts, but if they think one of the bad guys is going to get the ball they have to throw it to one of the good guys...behind them. Confused Not up ahead and closer to the goal posts. It just doesn't make sense at all! Why the feck would they carry it in their hands when it is called football, and why the feck would they throw it behind them?
Can't remember if that one is aussie rules or rugby league or rugby union.

Here as in the US

Here in the US the game played with "something roundish" would be basketball. They do teach it is schools. Yes you need a hoop as well, but go to ANY public park in the US and you will find several hoops if not a couple (or more) full courts.

Are you talking about Pele? That would be the only Soccer name I know, except for the guy that is married to the former Spice Girl (I can't think of his name at the moment - not good for him)

OJ is the only player known outside of the US? I do recall a number of them having acting careers post football. Also to just make it easier on me I will name a few other football players and you decide if you have heard of them. Brett Farve, Peyton Manning, Joe Montanna, Dan Marino, Packman Jones, Terrell Owens, Plaxico Burress, Lawrence Taylor, Lyle Alzado.
