My own feeling is that they ARE trying very hard to implement something that has not been done before and have wide community support for their efforts and, possibly as important, also have received government funding.
(I hope that answers your question Gem)
Gemjunkie wrote: | What the heck are they doing over there? Trying to screw up enough for government funding? |
Anyways, I think they are doing well and making progress with the Web site merger due to be completed in September. Any question of credit assignments has already been dealt with while offline in June.
I would hold off voting for a PotM in September for Pogs. But there is NO REASON not to shrub them.
Here is someone looking for his stats that mentioned us:
Quote: | Daniel,
My participation in the POGS project and credit that I've earned is still not showing up on the following:
1) Boinc Statistics for the World
2) Boinc All Project Stats
3) The Knights that say "Ni!" (whatever "Ni" means)
It is showing for the others.
Can you look into this please?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He can't, all XML are exported correct, and by now all proper maintained stats sites know of the new location of those XML. Those stats sites that still don't use the current XML are probably clinical dead or at least in vegetative state.
And BTW: The Knights Who Say NI! Sänger |
I have also written a response to the question as follows:
Quote: | Unfortunately, some of the stat sites are on "autopilot" and don't get the kind of housekeeping we would like to see.
For further discussion about the issue and the progress made see: This Thread
I will try to remind the KWSN volunteers that pay for their stats page to get it updated soon.
Feel free to read our forum: KWSN Orbiting Fortress
*** Everybody can join our team of Loo-ney Knights anywhere you see "The Knights Who Say Ni!" ...(don't forget to look for the exclamation mark ! and a link to the KWSN Orbiting Fortress.)
Anyone is welcome to join our forum to drop in and say Ni! |
It seemed like a good place to plug for the KWSN.
Someone needs to update our (KWSN) stats page with the correct address as well... http://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/stats/
Just my opinion,

The following Update from POGS:
Quote: | Message 1545 - Posted: 27 Aug 2013, 9:07:19 UTC
Hey everyone
After a lengthy discussion with the other team members from theSkyNet we've decided the best way forward for the alliance/team issue to be:
• theSkyNet will continue to use alliances as the main form of grouping members together. Ie the existing theSkyNet Alliance system will continue as is.
• I will load all the POGS, teams into theSkyNet database as ‘read only’ items
• So POGS teams will be included in the leader board (theSkyNet + POGS credit only)
• Each POGS team will be given a page displaying the teams stats ect and the pretty little graphs.
• Management of all of the POGS teams will be done through pogs.theskynet.org/pogs using the BOINC interface.
• For the approx. 40 teams that have a name collision in the existing system, both the alliance and the team will be kept as separate items, the POGS team will be given a suffix. We will the contact the Alliance/Team leaders and ask them if they would like their Alliance/Team converted to one system or the other.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and advice. If anyone as any thoughts on the above I would love to hear them.
Cheers
Alex

** My read on this: >> This will require that the BOINC TEAM founder respond to this request to avoid having a "suffix" added to our team name and thereby screwing up the AllProjectStats or any other Stats reported by Team name.
I do wish they had separated the dang "Alliances" from BOINC , but time will tell if this experiment will work for them or not. The final phase for the new website is due to happen on Sept. 15th.
I'll be shrubbing WU's through the transition to better gauge what is going on there. Could be a real experience.
What will they think when the goat starts eating their electrons and poops on the message board?
Who will they get to herd Llamas & Alpacas?
I'll post an update before the end of September. _________________

I'll wait and see what happens, but frankly, POGS is not THAT important to me -
It's not like I haven't had to stop Shrubbing other things - I liked Milky, back in that day...
I mean POGS is in my top Ten, but can just as easily be in my Abandoned Projects list too _________________

I see where you're coming from.
What gets me, is how the "academics" who are in charge of these projects think that when we offer to play Baseball with them and they change the rules to Cricket in the middle of the game, it will just be blindly accepted.
Working with thousands of Volunteers requires a different mindset than writing a grant request. I don't think they get it. |

Nope, still confused.
POGS and POGS Beta, separate projects or will POGS points transfer to POGS Beta?
Teams and Alliances which are the same, but incompatible. Which get reported to the stats sites?
There's also POGS Test???

Pretty sure that's intentional.

You're still confused. They are not separate projects as far as WU and the science goes...but rather one is a test website that they are going to merge in September.
Quote: | Teams and Alliances which are the same, but incompatible. Which get reported to the stats sites? |
I told them you would be confused, but did they listen? NooOoo. They are reporting our BOINC credits with the XML file at http://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/stats/
Not anymore. That is a dead link. I think that was early in 2012 before they started.
Are you just trying to confuse me???
Well, it's working.
I would advise anyone as confused as we are to wait until October to see what's left after the dust settles.
That is, except for the Team and Alliance Founders... they should make sure they keep an eye on things and the Team Founder needs to make certain they don't fool with our name.
The theory theSkyNet POGS program seems to have adopted is to separate the egg yokes after beating the eggs in a web-based mixing bowl.
Did you notice how well I avoided answering any of your questions while sounding like I really had a grip on my sanity? _________________

That is the old website they are no longer using.
That change was made in May-June. |

Do I need to detach/reattach or just add with the new address?
If I reattach, I lose a year's stats in BOINC manager. I hate that! _________________

I did not have to detatch Pogs on my Boinc Client running in Windoz.
I DID have to detach/re-attach on the Android.
LanDroid wrote: | Has all this confusion settled out; is SkyNet POGS ready for PotM vote next month? |
The confusion regarding their use of groups called "Alliances" DOES NOT effect our team.
There is further confusion that they are merging 2 different projects, POGS and SourceFinder, AND their "Alliances" into one website.
They are going to Re-launch in 5 days. All will become clear as mud at that time.
They created their OWN confusion but our Credits and our Pogs Team remain intact and the WU's have not changed. The "confusion" will remain forever for most of the users.
For myself, I see no reason not to participate. (I just love chaos.) |

Well, actually 3 times... page 1 " * " indicates you leaving the "ALLIANCE" twice and on the 2nd page you returned.
Good job getting noticed !!!
I think they might fix those after the re-launch, but who knows.
My opinion is that what matters is not so much the POGS Alliance but the BOINC POGS Team @ http://pogs.theskynet.org/pogs/team_display.php?teamid=4
and you are joined up there as well... lead the way!!! _________________

Yeah, well, I'm crunching (stress testing ) on a couple badass servers right now waiting for a vendor to get their software installed.... Unfortunately when they finally get their heads out of their hind ends, I'll need to quit using them to get shrubberies... _________________

Well let's not sweat coconuts over the "Alliances" ..It's all the crazy "trophy" awards that have me talking to my herring.
I have only been shrubbing this lil project less than half a year off and on with only one computer while doing a few other programs.....
and I have 61 ! ,..., yes, count 'em ,, 61 ! Trophy's awarded for some pretty exciting occasions.
The last one was a Pirate, "Happy talk like a pirate day 2013 ye scurvy dog. Thanks for crunching some of our information stuff. Now, walk the plank!" (This trophy has been won by 3136 users.)
