trying out ecm for a bit. Seems these are shorter WUs and therefore run faster for me. Not sure on checkpointing as it hasn't hit one just yet but its only been running 10 minutes so we'll see _________________

ECM is shorter as long as you don't get the super long ones. They'll say 340 hours when you first download them, though this comp here completes in about 20 hours. Discussion was on their boards though, and they're OK with peeps aborting those super long units, for instance if their machine isn't really up to it, so...
I do seem to remember some check pointing, though it's not constant check pointing, with this one. But as I've had a few (I'm guessing evolution tasks) get over 100% and then, not check point, I've taken to hibernate rather then shut down, for the period of time we're running this project, this month... _________________

Ok well so far these short ones seem to check point at 20%, 40%, 60% and i'm guessing 80 and 100% as well. With them being shorter units though i suspect that will mean less credits as well. Grr, its going to take me a looong time to land a yoyo badge at these kind of rates _________________

Around what I noticed also, there are super long ecm units, but they don't checkpoint more often, so... If you have the RAM for it (my old comp didn't, this one does), setting it to leave apps in memory when switching tasks help
Course, for those super long ones, whic do pay a few k credits, 20 or 21 hours on an i7 quad, could be considerably longer on some machines. Not sure what yours is... _________________

I'm running a AuthenticAMD
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+ [Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 1] with 3 GBs of RAM on Windows XP SP3. GPU is too old to be used _________________

k, keeping in memory or not, not sure on 3 GB with other stuff running. On 2 GB I couldn't set it as such, with 8 GB not really an issue. This was looking around the time frame of 2009-this year. Of coure in 2005 and 2006 with just 1 GB RAM it wasn't really an issue, but everything used less memory then
I used to have a athlon 64 3500+ (though the mobo craped out on the thing), but it was only a single core proc. The general impression I have, since getting the i7 is that it probably would take it a fair bit longer then the i7 to complete those extra long tasks, you might want to avoid them. Though on their forums, the youo staff did mention they don't mind if people abort those extra long ones, before they begin crunching, as others with faster computers can just pick them up....
Naturally it does mean not getting the very large credits from them though.... _________________

ya i see what you're saying as far as that the longer tasks could be more of a pain. I've been testing out some POEM units and they run in about an hour and give much better credits so i will most likely just go that route since yoyo is so wacky in the way it does things _________________

Production is up significantly from 3.8K average daily in a week to 56K daily. We just passed Canal Boinc, now in 22nd place. |

But which was the real youo, the yoyo, or the one who called him a yoyo, or the one who discovered they were yoyos first? _________________

The imaginary yoyo's from the land of oz, who are imaginary enough to discuss whether they are imaginary or not
That sounds about as convoluted as a politician's word _________________
