So I was scoping out possible replacements to swap out my thunderbird with and it's sad but dell actually has a good deal on an i7 with an ati 4850.
$629 refurbished
I've been pricing stuff at newegg and I can't touch that price and have a usable system.
This may be what I go for once my tax return shows up though.
Has anyone seen any better deals? _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I think it was Pooh Bear who got a Dell from the Scratch & Dent.
Great Deal, I could not build that for what he payed even discounting the OS. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I haven't seen anything close. The best price I've seen on just the processor is $229 at Microcenter and the board is going to run you at least that plus you have to go with DDR3 RAM. Your fairly quickly at $600 just with those three items. That Dell deal is starting to look attractive.
One other thing...the i7's run very hot. With it running at 8 cores 100% the core temps are all around 100C. So that cooling device that Papa started this thread with might actually be necessary. I tried installed the V8 version yesterday and the thing draws so much juice the PSU couldn't run the HDD or video. _________________

The reviews of the V10 say it Sucks, and not in a good way...
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/reviews/cooler_master_v8
The V8 got a verdict of 9
The V10 got a 4 (I think)
Plus, I would bet that the V10 would not fit in a Dell........ _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

There's no way. I used an Antec 900 case for my build and the V8 barely fit. Most of the cooling equipment looks like it's built more for a cool factor than functionality. The salesman was rather shocked when I told him I really didn't care what the thing looked like, I just wanted something that actually worked. Now the decision, buy a new PSU so I can run a good cooler, or try to find a cooler that doesn't use so much power. _________________

I also run a Antec 900 case, I love it. I just wish it was bigger and had a removable MoBo tray.
The CoolerMaster 840 may be my next case.
I am thinking of going to H2O in the 900 _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

That's a big case. Have you seen the 900 II? It's set up a little better for water cooling. Not sure I want to go that route, although it might be worth it to cut down the noise. _________________

Antec 900 II? No.
I have built 2 Antec 900's, and 2 Antec 300's. I have also looked at the Antec 1200 but i was not impressed.
That Cooler Master is a Monster. But that is what I want. I am sick of not being able to plug in Fans, Sata, Ide, MoBo power cables, Etc... or having to remove the MoBo to swap out a drive.
Noise is not an issue for me, I have 6 boxes within reach of me now. I only notice the noise when its gone. Ie: Power failure _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I'm thinking about using this one http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0246301 down the road. Plenty of room inside. _________________

Yeah, I have seen that MONSTER.....I wonder about air flow.
Quote: | Cooling System Bays Eleven Fan Bays (5 Front 120mm Fan Bays, 5 Rear 120mm Fan Bays, 1 Rear 80mm Fan Bay)
Case Fans Intake Front: Two 120mm x 120mm x 25mm Fans
Case Fans Exhaust Rear: Three 120mm x 120mm x 25mm Fans |
I guess it will be fine........
It has a 7" drive bay in front that you can put a 7" monitor in. Perfect for a Shrubber _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Me too, but now that I am in an apartment I don't have my Air Compressor in the garage, and dust is a problem..... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

It also has a spot for a second MB. The reviews I've read about it are all positive. _________________
