If you remove the junk they try to up sell you, you can get this for just over $200.00 US. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Not too shabby at all, Papa Smurph.
I'll get around to it one day...famous last words.
For the sake of the uni assignment I'm doing, I just went for fairly basic specs and included monitor, printer, speakers, modem, keyboard and mouse. I think it all came to about $710 (aussie) in total from gamedude.com.au. Haven't got it in front of me at the moment. Should have...but haven't. Still a fair bit of dough but cheaper than going and buying a whole system off the shelf, which is what I've always done. My second oldest Acer, the one that's really nice to use, has been sitting idle for a while. I think it needs a new psu, and possibly a motherboard. The dilemma is - I don't want to replace the psu, then find out the motherboard is stuffed. I think it's going to be a case of wait until I've got the funds to replace both. The gamedude guy seems to have some fairly reasonable prices. Lots of hype too. "Must go" and "Super special", all that sort of flashy stuff. lol _________________ My brain hurts.

Yay, I did something right.
Yes, I know it's sad to get excited over something so simple.
Aha!
and
The next bit in the study book looks interesting. PMT function? hahahaha

Pull the Psu out of one that works ( takes about 10 min Max ) and put it in your acer. If it runs it is the PSU...
Power supply's are cheap and you should Always have a spare or 2 around
I would send you one but the shipping to the "Bottom" of the planet would cost more than a PSU _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

lol Yes, I think it would. Thanks for the offer anyway.
Just checked the specs for the assignment 'computer', and it's $59 for the case with 460 watt psu included. I'll go back and check the prices for a psu alone.
Thanks for the tip about testing with a working psu. Never thought of that, and neither did my son who is learning this stuff at TAFE college. The kids are with their dad for the next week or thereabouts, so I'll wait for the boy-child to come home and he can help. We'll both learn something new. He's already pulled the psu out of the Acer, now he can learn how to put one in. _________________ My brain hurts.

I always think of it as PMT (T = tension), but we seem to have adopted the U.S. version PMS sometime during the last 10 (?) years or so.
Anyway, assignment 5 now done and submitted. Yay! Now, it's time to catch up on mountains of Psych reading and the Psych assignment due on the 12th.

And the late, lamented, VisiCalc, the program that started it all. And the late, mostly forgotten Lucid, which would run on a Tandy 100 notebook (the original notebook).
My favorite, in some ways, was "As Easy As...", which was a shameless knockoff of guess what?
Among other things, I'm a database guy. The thing is, about 99.9% of the time, all my users want their data in the form of spreadsheets. So I've had to learn Excel.
I'm to the point where I'm using nested conditionals, writing VBA to set and clear filters with one click on the column heading, etc.
Now, I'm working with persisted MS Access ADO recordsets converted to XML and formatted by an XSL stylesheet. Pretty cool, as you're essentially creating a spreadsheet out of thin air, rather than exporting to an existing one, or building it with office automation (which is fairly slow). Exporting date fields to date-formatted cells in the resulting Excel spreadsheet is likely to drive me to drink, though, as I haven't managed yet, despite titanic effort. _________________

Here's a gift for those that can afford it...
This is Saudi Prince AL-Waleed's diamond-studded Mercedes...
He ordered it for his 38th birthday...
Price: A paltry 4.8 million dollars!!
We ought to follow him around and wait for a car crash and sweep up the debris!
What a waste... But it keeps the economy workin', I guess... _________________
