The CNN article said that they are claiming "Poor visibility of the night" as to why they did it. Sounds like a total pile of BS to me. Another reason to stop watching. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

That does sound like BS. I'd say it was more security related (the no-fly zone) like we heard here.
p.s. I wasn't drooling as I'm getting too old for that sort of shenanigans. It was more medically related, as in various strain injuries and slipped discs. _________________ My brain hurts.

OR they were to damn cheap to do the rest of it & just did it on the computer. A no fly zone shouldn't effect fireworks. They don't launch them from planes. Besides, if a plane did wander into the area, the fireworks would mess it up! _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

True. That should not matter. Here in NYC every 4th of July Macy's (the department store) puts on a HUGE fireworks show in the harbor. They get some very good sky shots of everything happening as it is happening from camera equipped helicopters. It can be done if they want to. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

They could have done it if they wanted to but they didn't. Silly people.
We get lovely aerial fireworks shots from Brisbane and Sydney for New Year's Eve. Plus the F1-11s flying over Brisbane and doing the fuel burning thing so that it looks like big long flames in the sky. Not as good as being there in person but a good way to avoid the crowds. We could see the F1-11s in the distance when we lived in Brisbane, before we moved up to the yucky Charters Towers. Although they did have a reasonably decent New Year's fireworks there. _________________ My brain hurts.

We don't have much in Fireworks here for New Years (might be too cold and moist), we do have the ball drop. That's gets big attention. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I was keeping an eye on the cute female athletes in the opening ceremonies and in the sports so far.

The latest story is that the "cute girl in pigtails" singing was just lip-syncing because the girl who did sing was not "pretty enough".
China is just too used to managing the media. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

The part that gets me is that the media is taking the "managing" without protest. Why should they? China needs them for this. If the media protests, China will toss them out. Fine. No one left to broadcast the games. China wants the media attention from the Olympics to show how great they are, can;t do it if there is no one there to report it. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Well I downloaded a recording of the opening ceremonies and I don't quite understand the controversy over the footsteps. It was fairly obvious that the shot was at least partially CGI. The camera raised up from inside the stadium up to above the fireworks in about 2 seconds which I'm pretty sure would be pretty much impossible in a helicopter. Also as I understand it, the fireworks really did go off, its just that the shot they showed on TV was premade. I didn't get the US version but I saw someone saying that they actually said during the airing that it was a "virtual flythrough" of Beijing so I don't know that China was really trying to keep it a secret, thats just how they chose to do the production.
I was wondering how many LEDs they used in that place!
Now the singing girl part is kind of lame, I will give you that... And now it seems like they may have fudged the age on some of the gymnast girls so I would say there are larger concerns than the few seconds of CGI during the opening ceremonies. |
