Quote: | Hey Cohiba ... what version of Opera do you have running?
Mine blew up as soon as I updated my Java for dimes. |
Version information
Version 7.54
Build 3865
Platform Win32
System Windows XP
Java Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.4
VoiceXML Plugin not available
Key might have been to not upgrade sun java i'm forced to keep version 1.4 for some other programs i run.
My 7.54u1 on another computer also works fine with dimes

Apparently there's a workaround for Zone Alarm in here: click _________________ "There ain't no freekin' Indians around here..."

Yep for Zonealarm free users (such as myself) set the internet settings to Medium. Left Menu ---> Firewall ---> Internet Zone Security --> slide down that one notch. Then when you run dimes, set it to UDP, not ICMP Seems to be running fine now.
[Edit] After 5 mins, i've got comps from Canada, US, Netherlands, Spain, and Iraq, UK, Italy and France. [/Edit] _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

I have ZoneAlarm with its default settings (Internet Security Zone - High) and do not show any graphs. However, it doesn't seem to matter as I am still returning results! |

Ok... I have Dimes on 4 computers... 3 of which run fine and the graph is all pretty and all... but on my personal computer I get no graph... what could be wrong? It is connected to the same router as 1 of the other 3 computers and that computer displays everything fine... both computers are running Windows XP with all SPs and various other updates. _________________ Sir Latch of the Highlands

I set up Dimes to run on my home machines, and seem to be heading up the stats.
However, what is the scientific use of running several instances of the client from home?
I assume that since the starting location is the same for all clients, the results they send back will be more or less identical, or am I wrong? _________________

Yes, first thing I checked... in fact I now have a more up-to-date java than the computer that runs it fine and still no graph... but it does seem to be sending back data

I'm not sure... my view is that the starting location may be the same but the destinations are not (at least I don't think the destinations are the same) therefore it should still benefit... besides even if start and end are the same there should still be many routes to take to get there _________________ Sir Latch of the Highlands

Some dude at the DIMES forum wrote:
Quote: | Good question actually,
The thing is that we still don't have enough agents to do all the measurements we need in the rate that we need. So while we want agents to be spread, it is very useful for us to have in each point clusters of agents, so that we'll be able to perform enough measurements from that point.

The moral of the story: run the DIMES client on all available PCs, whether they share an internet connection or not! They all give meaningful results and will all render lovely shrubberies. |
