About Simulation One
Simulation One, or SimOne@home (or even more easily SimOne), is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in the fields of science. You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer.
SimOne is completely created and managed by volonteers who believe in distributed computing. Our main base is of course the Boinc.Italy community from which we come. Currently we are testing the project studying the phenomenon of osmoprotection. |
And a tip-o-the-hat to our Founder, KWSN - The Knights Who Say Ni!

First work unit released!
Hi!
I just released the first 18 WU I hope that everything works as it should.
Each wu takes about 10 hours on my 8-core pc, only 50MB RAM and about 100MB of disk space. Checkpoints should be every minutes.
I also created an osmoprotectans intro in order to begin exploring what this project run (link on home page).
If you have some time to dedicate to our project, please feel free to report any problem, bug or suggestion.

Eighteen WUs go fast, and it looks like they ALL got snagged by BOINC.Italy
I guess I spotted it a few hours late... I am in with six PCs (nine or ten Cores) _________________

The Italians are hogging all the WUs. Though I am confused of what type of science we are researching. Ways to get out of debt?

I rec'd the following Boinc notice (in section where they announce new Primes, etc.):
Quote: | SimOne@home: Notice from server
Invalid code signing key. To fix, remove and add this project.
1/30/12 1:14:08 PM |
Even more serious than resetting the project, so that's what I did. Still no WU's.
Heh, this whole thing looks like an Italian chemistry student goofing around with the idea of having an Italian Boinc project:

Wow, he released 50 more WU's today:

I guess that's ONE way to keep all the WUs at BOINC.Italy, huh? Sorry, guys, for my misguided hopes we could actually do something here... _________________

No, do not detach. REMOVE the project then add it and re-connect to your account. Still no WU's, but at least you'll be communicating with some looNI Italian chemistry student! CRANK up the magnet Wabbit! |

I have a 6.12 on one shrubber. It has reset and remove, no detach. Looks the same functionally.
I hate v.6.12. Why did they remove the Messages tab? How are you supposed to see what happened if you update and don't get tasks? You don't even know if the boinc manager requested tasks. I'm not updating any more until I have to. _________________

In the new versions, click on Advanced, then Event Log and there are the messages. Still available, but slightly less convenient... |

Why do developers need to screw up the parts of the software that works well?
I tried again and reattached normally. Thanks. _________________

Looks like SimOne is making progress, mainly in Linux at the moment. Adventurous Penguins may want to attach and stay tuned for work...
Quote: | A month-long journey
One month after the birth of the project we are pleased to announce the great strides made so far:
1) We have obtained stable application for Linux operating systems both 32 and 64-bit multithreaded;
2) We have the official support of the research group in Molecular Modelling, University of Milan;
3) The project is already beginning to produce results, soon I hope to write a few pages of explanation;
4) We're developing the Windows application, even with different problems, but we're on the right path.
So thanks to all of you who support this project!

edit> WU on 1090T 1hr elapsed, progress bar says 69%
