Attention all knighly shrubbers, comely wenches, squires and lords all.
It may have escaped your notice but the newly-revived KWSN folding team will now have 140-150k Points per Day at its disposal. This will halt the slow slide down the world rankings, and allow us to catch some teams above us.
However, if we are to make the Top 20 by summer, we need a few more of you DC-ers to switch a few cycles over to Folding. I know the other projects are equally deserving of your time and electricity but please spare a thought for all these poor proteins out there with no-one to fold them.
Your team needs you to shrub for it. Thank you in advance for heeding this call to arms. Please post below how much PPD you think you can provide. _________________ - Folding for Fun -

Wowza!
150 kPPD? That would be more than we had in the good old days when we were racing up the charts.
I don't posess the computing power to make any PPD brags here, but I do hope this revival of the old Folding team will get the interest back from some of the others.

Pete is helping me out , so that we will be level for the first of December.
Then the "challenge" is to throw down a million a month.
Pete as you may know has 10ish quads.
I am in the process of replacing my 8 x (3800 X2s) with G0s.
I have a
1 X3210 oc'ed (on bc's recommendation)
1 QX6700 with a 8800GTX wc'ed oc'ed 680i mobo 12 x 12cm fans, cost a bomb to build and is a perpetual nightmare
1 pair of xeon 5310s wc'ed 8gb RAM Supermicro mobo Lian-Li case wc'ed (nothing sexier than wc'ed duallies) will probably replace with cheap X5355s (Last Christmas project to keep me sane)
2 x C2Ds @ 3.0 [partime office machines using vmware]can't remember which ones.
T5600 lappy which I'm wrirting this on.
1 ps3
The 8X "Farm" is built in a "modded" [I got a chav to prise the compaq badge off] 42U comaq cabinet using the cheapest 4U server cases I could get. 430W seasonic PSUs (I was given a lot of shit on spending ca$h on them But with the advent of quads I think I made the right decision).
All mobos are mini-ATX with onboard VGA. The X2s ran 1Gb of ram on gigabyte mobos, Artic PR07 HSFs. the Q6600s will run 2Gb on the wendel [fatality] mobo nenay HSFs.
The reason for the RAM and coolers - is when I come to "upgrade" the whole package can go for the basis of a good desktop pc for friends family and interested punters. |

I'm giving my staff first option - with a warranty [I will fix or replace anytning and I'm charging £50 for the whole thing]
They r F- "190HD somethings" but I'm confident that wendel will replace them if anything goes south. |

Thanks to the 4 new shrubbers, the threat from "xtremesystems.org" is now delayed until at least November 5th 3967.

I'm running 6-off Fatal1ty F-I90HD - they play 'dead' if they aren't happy with their ram, nothing at all when you fire them up. I've had problems with 800 MHz ram from Geil, but they're fine on OCZ PC2-8500 SLI or Adata 667 Mhz. I get stability problems using OCZ PC2-6400 C4 though, they'll boot fine but won't run for longer than a day without rebooting themselves. _________________ 50 cores - 147 GHz - surely now over 1.0 mpm??? |

Being an "E-noob", that is "Experienced n00b" [everybody in IT is a n00b until they understand that they know nothing then they are a E-n00b]
I have followed PeteBee and the website I bought the mobo from, use expensive RAM. The Wendel seems a good mobo if you give it good RAM. For example overclockers.co.uk say you need good RAM to run the board |

Yeah, they do seem a bit temperamental Pete. I had a few issues with Geil RAM on them too, they don't like 4-4-4-12 ultra 6400 sticks. You have to set the voltage up from 1.8 to 2.1v.. a little difficult when they won't boot...
Anyways, both boards were working fine for a matter of days, E6600 + 2Gb Geil RAM using the HDMI out for the telly. Then, out the blue it just wouldn't power on one day, lights come on on the board, fans all spin up.... then nothing
Tried all the usual, swapping CPUs, RAM, fitted a PCIe graphics card, re-set the cmos, i even swapped the psu. But still nothing.
Then bugger me the 2nd one does exactly the same thing!
Gone back to my ASUS roots now with the new G35 HDMI - wicked bit of kit for HTPC, a tad pricey at £100 for building a folding farm thou. _________________ More Power Captain! We Need MORE POWER I Tell You!!

Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 is a good board for shrubbing.
Under £50, built in graphics, supports Quads. MATX form factor.
Full range of overclocking options, FSB will run at 375MHz stock volts.
Last and most important - it will run the new 45nm CPUs.

I think probably. Do you have a speaker connected to the SPK pins? If you do the beep codes could give you an idea of what is wrong. If memory serves, there is way to reload the bios from floppy. On post if there is a bios problem it trys to re-install it from the FDD. Do you get the red power LED coming on? |

A what ??!
Joking aside, i did think maybe a bios problem, will have to dig out an old FDD and give it a bash.. Also i think i have an old case here somewhere with a speaker i could try for the beep codes. _________________ More Power Captain! We Need MORE POWER I Tell You!!
