|
|
I got a new GPU for one of the Linux boxes.
Since the MB is a dual PCI-X thingie, I thought I might keep the old GPU in the second slot.
However, Ubuntu does not automatically detect the two GPUs, but only the one in the primary slot.
Anyone know if it is possible to run dual GPUs on Ubuntu when the GPUs are not of the same type?
One is a HD5570 and the other is a HD5770.

Is there a monitor or dummy load on the second card to make the OS activate it?
(I'm just a Linux newbie, but it seems as though it would work similar to Win in this regard)

Ah, I was not aware that the card needed load to be detected.
Oh well, it's just a 5570, so it's not like it's worth bying a monitor to keep it running. I'll just toss it instead.
Thanks for the help anyway! _________________

You can make a dongle. It's just a plug found on the end of a VGA cable with a few resistors soldered on to draw enough current to fool the OS into thinking there's a monitor attached. Hang on, I'll post a link to instructions here when I find them again.

Yes, I did some searching and found this.
However, I also found a forum post stating that these should not be necessary on a Linux system.
Then I realized that I am a complete MORON!
So I started Catalyst control center, activated the secondary adapter, and that's it...
Oh well, my excuse is that I've never used a dual GPU setup before.
But now I'm rockin' a 5570 and a 5770 in the same shrubber!

Collatz, DNET and Mooooooooo!!!!
Ok, so DNET and Moo is pretty much the same project, but still counts as two projects in BoincStats
There is also Primegrid, but I've never got it to run without using 100% of one CPU core in addition to the GPU, so I'm not running that one anymore.
