My Internet connection is being stupid. Whenever I leave my computer sitting untouched for a few hours, the Internet connection stops working, even though it says it's connected. There's nothing to do but restart the computer to get it working again.

This will be a problem if I finish folding a shrubbery in the wee small hours of the morning.

Anyone had a problem like this?

(Win XP, DSL, on a wireless home network.)

Yes, one of mine did this too. It was ZoneAlarm that was the problem. I hacked it out with a blunt axe. (One of the offspring had thought it was a good idea to install it. I think it was letting through it's favourite pop-up ads as well.)

Bonajn arbetojn!

I've used Zone Alarm for years, but found that it was Zone Alarm that was causing the home network problems.
Cohiba is a pretty clever fella and he reckons ZA can be a real pain. We're just using the Windoze firewall now.

Wouldn't you know it? I've got Zone Alarm. But not for long, heh heh heh.

Thanks and #ni-1

I've never had much of any problems with Zonealarm.

I have also had that problem with XP and my cable co.. Was losing the ability to dns lookups, only fix was to reboot. I changed my dns servers, and also putting the latest patches helped to. But it acted like the internet connection dropped. No zone alarm.. just xp firewall and a linksys router.

My firewall works fantastic and its not zonealarm or winflaws...
I use shorewall...
works great...havent had any worms or trojans or even a virus either...
Thought i should install a anti-virus but hey never get those problems...
I suppose it may be worth it to protect those poor peasants that use winflaws and dont have the magick to use the POWER of the finger...mmmmmm

Just to be polite and not being silly now..(wont last)...
it could be a network timeout on idle..
i'm sorry i dont know where to look for it in windows but u can set a connection time on networks if the connection is idle for a length of time...
same thing for the dsl connection too..not knowing the wireless modem setups used today i cant tell you where to look but hunt that down and check it...
Zonealarm may have the same feature in there firewall...
i can understand its frustrating as i spend as much time on my sons pc as i do on the linux box's...but i work with linux where the winbox is just to keep it going...
WELL THAT'S IT FOR BEING SENSIBLE...
get hammer it will fix ur problem then...lol
