I have been through the other messages on this similar topic and they don't seem to quite apply.

When I turn on my computer the BOINC Manager shows a balloon in the systray that connection failed. Of course it failed the network connections and other associated apps haven't loaded yet!

When I open the manager and try "Retry COmmunications" nothing happens.

It doesn't seem to correct itself over time.

If I close BOINC down and restart it is fine.

Can I delay (or something) the BM starting?

Cheers

Most peculiar. I don't have it set to start up automatically so I haven't seen this. However it sounds like the manager is failing to start up the background core client process for some reason. It isn't trying to connect to anywhere on the internet - just back to your own computer. This is how the manager communicates with the core client.

Do you know if it auto-starts by putting a shortcut in Start->Programs->Startup or by putting an entry in the registry? If it uses the registry, putting it in the start menu isntead may help - I'm not sure in what order windows does these things. Thats all I can think of at 4 AM - good night Smile

Thanks for the insight, MacG

I think the start is in the registry, I will check this out and change it to the Startup folder.

However, for now that computer is U/S with either heating or power problems.

Cheers

Had my sons pc loaded with windows when i got it and i put boinc on there for a week or so...scary but hey had naught to lose..
It did the same thing..it loaded boinc before it made the network connaction...
now not being winflaws person i never bothered with it but is it possible to alter the startup sequence and place boinc at the end of that list...
like at the end of..ummm..
What the hell was that file called that u configured the system in........
config.sys and umm... autoexec.bat
havent gone that senile... Shocked Confused
in one of these files could you alter it so boinc starts last..
doh dont tell me..winflaws dont have these files no more...
I expect that for a reply..only bloody windows i have let the bugs in, so i close them and board them up...easy..
Now I cant throw that dumb pizza man out that way...lol
