This is a new BOINC project, it is stiall considered an alpha; the purpose of Ralph is to make the Rosetta@Home client better. It is kind of like Pirates. There is a KWSN team called "The Knights Who Say Ni!". So only join us if you are prepared for an alpha project and do not mind if there are only going to be a few of us.

Heh, I thought this would have something to do with the Kramdens. I joined Ralph 'cause the Rosetta client certainly needs some work. I detached from Rosetta a while back 'cause most of the WU's generated errors. |

Rosetta had some work units around Christmas that were apparently translated from bad Hungarian, but it has been running smoothly since. |

Ralph news:

Another Windows version update. There is likely going to be a number of Windows updates as we try to debug the application.
February 24, 2006
Correction Please abort work units on Windows machines that are currently running versions earlier than 4.87.

Thank you all for joining this test project. The results look good and we are now ready to release the updated application on Rosetta@home. We still need more volunteers with Linux and Mac OSX platforms.
|
I decided to help them a little with this last request by dual-booting into Linux and Boincing just Ralph and Rosetta with that OS. I'll probably run Linux at night and Windows during the day. |

Here are some Ralph FAQ's.
http://ralph.bakerlab.org/forum_thread.php?id=41#278
Memory swapping is one area of confusion with Rosetta & Ralph...
Quote: | If you are NOT running ROSETTA@home, we would prefer that you set your preferences to remove applications from memory during application swaps. One of the tests being performed relates to work unit errors that are the result of application switching. The only way to test the solution to this problem is to allow the applications to be removed from memory when necessary.
However, if you are running the production ROSETTA@home application at the same time you are running RALPH@home, then you should set your system to keep application in memory to prevent ROSETTA@home work Unit errors.
To change your preferences to keep Rosetta@Home (and all other applications) in memory, General Preferences Log in (if your not already) -> Edit Preferences (down the bottom) -> Leave applications in memory while preempted? Check yes and click the update preferences button, also remember to update BOINC. BOINC Manager and select "Projects"(tab) , select "RALPH@home", and click "Update". |
I don't think I want applications left in memory, so I need to disconnect from Rosetta? However, Boincing Ralph and removing from memory could help solve this problem? |

We updated the windows application version to 4.93. The new version has a fix for the "leave in memory when switching apps" bug that we would like to test. If you are running on Windows, please set your user preference to remove applications from memory when switching between projects and let us know if you are still experiencing errors in this thread. |
It's about time! And it appears to be working, at least on my system.

WAY too much information !
Whatever you do with Ralph is your business . And whatever problems you have are also your business . And however much booze you consume to erase those resultant thoughts are equally your business. But please don't share it here. There are women here, and while there are no children, there are numerous Knights with child-like minds (e.g. myself and da Griz) .

Gettin visions of emperor Cartosia (sp?) in Babylon 5, when he showed Londo his desk... And on the desk he had the heads of his victims, people who critisized his rule, and the "heads in the jar" if you will, he'd talk to them at night :barf:
Shudders :shiver:
And yeah, the remove from memory they have been testing in RALPH so do want peeps to remove it. That said, anyone running Rosseta as they mention, or CPDN (which they don't), forget removing from memory. The former because of probs, and the latter cause one loses too much danged crunching time on it |
