I have recently installed 5.2.1 on one Windows 2000 machine and am monitoring its progress. I have SETI, CP, Predictor, and PrimeGrid running on it. I can say it installed okay. This thread is for Knights to discuss issues with 5.x and report progress/notes/bugs.

thought the 5.22 version was supose to be out any day?

Don't think it shrubs faster apple but it does, better prioritze what units to shrub first and tries to prevent shrubs from going past there expiration date.

Is it just me or does 5.2.1 seem to wait to report results longer than the 4 series? It seems whenever I check on it there are usually two units listed as "ready to report" that will go through if manually updated. I'll keep looking into this but so far it seems this version moves well between work units but is less persistent about reporting work completed.

I like the way they have reworked the top menus.

Seems okay so far on Slackware 9 (Linux)...will update once I've had it running for a few days.

Last I heard, LHC still wasn't 5.x compliant. Seeing as I run that on most of my computers I probably won't upgrade to it until LHC upgrades their server code to support it.

Any dialup users? I hear 5.x is supposed to be better behaved for dialup users.

As for the reporting behavior... see here for an official "bug" someone reported about it. Turns out it is the correct behavior. Basically 4.45 reported work units more often than it needed to. The goal is to hit the scheduler server only when needed. If left alone, the client should report them on its own eventually. This lets it report several results in a single connection and reduce the load on the server. Whether or not you agree with the theory is another matter but that is what those in charge think Smile

I see. I am aware now, after checking on it a few days, that that is what is occuring. It really does not matter to me as long as the results are uploaded in a timely manner, which apparently they are. No sweat. Smile
