Do we have a choice of what core's we get? If so I will foget about all the Tinkers again. This one is driving me mad, I run that PC all night long and most of the day. I do have to use the phone once in a while so I have to sign off AOHell, but it just never seems to get finished.

Should I delete the info above of the log file?

How are you this fine day? #ni-1

I'm fine, thx Cool .

Well, you are running the graphical cleint so it's gonna be slow Sad .

I don't try to "Tinker" with the settings. I crunch whatever Stanford gives me. I'm into the pointage but also the science, and figure if they're handing out the WU it's something they need to be done Cool .

Yes, I tend to take whatever they give me too. I am not fussy, but my life is working around this WU, and I am not a happy camper having to leave it on all the time. If we need to use the phone, I shut down AOhell and hurry up on the phone to start it back up again.

One thing we are looking into is Satelite and hooking up the 2 PC's then they can run all the time. They want a small fortune, my first born child and all my earnings for the rest of my life to hook us up, not sure i'm ready to give up my earnings for the rest of my life. Laughing

You don't need to stay connected all the time.
If you get a WU that looks like it'll take a couple of days to finish, you can just disconnect and wait for it to complete. You will not lose the WU if the computer is not connected when it finishes. It will be sent next time you connect. All you will lose is some computer time (ok, that's a bad thing, but it beats having to schedule your life after FAH...)

Thanks for all your input.

That is usually what I do, but this one has been here so long, I'm afraid it will be lost if it is time stamped. How do I tell when the WU should be done in a timely manner?

You need to have a look at the link I posted above.

http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html

Per that link, you have 67 days to send the thing back. You've only had it for 8 days and it's 3/4 of the ways complete.

So as Mildew says, log off of AOL. NEVER stay on AOL for the sake of Folding. When you finally do log onto AOL, FAH will "notice" the connection and send back completed results, and get itself a new WU to crunch. You don't have to babysit it. However, if you do notice that a WU is complete, and thus your puter has nothing to crunch at the moment, and you want to get it working on something again, then log onto AOL and let it do its upload/download thing. But basically just ignore it, it'll do fine on its own Cool .

You might also want to switch to the console version. Not much to look at but it hogs less of your memory thus runs a little faster.

What is the difference between the console and graphical client? Will I loose what I've done so far? Give me details, I want to know it all.

graphical client: nice 'graghics, nice screensaver

console client: faster crunching, can be configured to run as service, add-on's available (EMIII) to watch 'WU'-progress

migration from graphic to console:

wait for finish and upload of current 'WU' in that graphical client.
uninstall graphical client
dl + configure console client (fah502console.exe -configonly)
start of console-client:
fah502console.exe -verbosity 9

Alpha, following is a link to one of the KWSN pages that shows pics and has additional info on how to set up the console version. It's not very hard to do. Just follow the instructions.

I'd skip the -configonly and -verbosity options to make it easier Rolling Eyes

Just uninstall the graphical client, download the no-nonsense version, put it in a suitable folder (not on the desktop!) and double-click it. No additional options are needed.

I usually don't like to run the client as a service, since it hogs a lot of memory and I want to be able to shut it off easily when I want to run some other program. I usually just put a shortcut to the fah502console.exe in the startup folder in the start-menu.

If you require assistance (sorry, remote only Razz ) you can always send me a PM Wink
