This Live Linux CD can be used to shrub in a pinch, or better yet, in a computer that has no hard drive.

Download using bittorrent from:
http://overclockix.octeams.com/

Note that it starts shrubbing FOR ITS AUTHOR as soon as it boots up, so you have to stop it and reconfig.

It also has everything you need for a diskless server (well, not any of the hardware parts), so if you have a bunch of computers but no hard drives, or can't be bothered to install the software over and over, it might be for you.

Screen shot (Click to enlarge):

I've installed it and tried it out a revision ago, and it was pretty slick.

Ok, I've downloaded this and several other diskless variants of linux. Unfortunately as I cannot read German, I can't read the help files that come with them, simple question first, how do I run this off a cdrom? My computer won't boot from it. How do I burn the data off the site onto a cd so as to bring up the linux operating system and shrub with a computer that has no hard drive

*edit, better yet, is there a website that anyone here goes to for such knowlege?

Umm you can just keep asking questions and we'll keep answering them, were a bunch of linux nuts around here. Do you mean the pc or cdrom is to old to do a boot from cdrom? Or you haven't changed the bios setting to tell it to boot from cdrom or you need help even burning it to cdrom?

it's usually simple with me Smile I didn't know how how to make a bootable cd, stopped by a local hole in the wall computer store and one of the local geeks showed me how to do it, so now I'm on to the next step (gave up on running from cd, replaced the hd and installed linux to the hd). Now I'm working on teaching my new linux computer to fold.

Although, armed with the knowlege of how to burn a bootable cd, I may put together yet more pieces of computer and do the harddriveless model for fun and the experience

Just gotta make sure you burn a cd using the iso and NOT a cd with the iso on it....otherwise known as the advanced method of coaster production.

looks kinda nice, with the rainbow cd surface and the colors painted on...
