Suggestion to drop Citizens Science Grid form list of consideration for PotM.
No work from Wildlife in well over a year.
No DNA work, no word on future projects.
No Subset Sum work in several weeks. No warning of outage or reason given.
Seriously lacking communication from project scientists for over a year, sporatic at best.
Website is broken, does not appear to have sparked interest of project scientist or admin to fix.
Started out to be an interesting "umbrella" project that could have attracted DC volunteers and others if given support from admins, scientists, etc.
Pretty sad state of affairs a the moment, suggest we strike it form PotM untill they can prove they want volunteers. _________________

Until there's work available, I say it's in Zombie Mood. _________________ a monster can be excused for his behaviour . . . The problem is not how a monster could do it, but how a human being did it.

Yeah, still in zombie mode but there is death and rumours of life.
Today finally got word that SubSet Sum is going to be retired due to the project scientist retiring.
Threats that Wildlife will be revived also were posted while NO NEWS from DNA.

Pieces of rotting flesh are falling off the web pages at Citizens Science Grid.
The website and message boards are falling apart from neglect.
None of the Wildlife video watching widgets work and nobody responds to complaints.
No more Subset Sum work.
No DNA work.
No Wildlife work or video event marking.
CSG started dying over a year ago and continues to be dead.
I am pretty disappointed after all the effort I put into wildlife video event markings.
I have removed the project from my BOINC manager and I'm not checking the website or message board anymore.
Gave it my best shot. Time to Move On. _________________

#29 on total credit The Knights Who Say Ni!, 34 knights did 5,868,451 points.
Yep, that seems about it.
RIP - CSG. _________________ a monster can be excused for his behaviour . . . The problem is not how a monster could do it, but how a human being did it.

... and I was fooled again.
Just because the lead project scientists only get interested once or twice a year doesn't mean zombies don't come back to life!
There is life-like stirrings in the Wildlife@Home part of CSG.
A new addition of badges is being offered for catagorizing still pictures of wildlife and a few new types of picture sources.
There is a new WU type being floated; Convolutional Neural Network Trainer. It is written for Linux only in the introductory stages, later to be ported to OSX and then lastly to Windoz. (they don't like windoz@CSG).
Quote: | So what the new app is doing is training convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to best detect wildlife in our imagery. Although right now it's working on a benchmark dataset (the MNIST handwritten digits dataset) so I can double check that things are working.
What the server is doing is evolving the structure of the CNNs as it generates workunits and receives results to try and find the best structure for a neural network to do the detection. |
OK so... The Server is evolving it's neural network. hmmmm...

Maybe someone can call the University where it's housed and speak to Travis Desell? _________________
