Hi friends...

Need some help.

For some reason I can't figure out how to get credit on Wildlife@home by viewing videos. Read the directions-just confused me.

Help pls?

Well... the thing is you don't get BOINC credits for viewing vids.... (you probably knew that)
However, they are keeping track of correctly marked "Events" and time spent. You can earn a nifty little feather for your sig. Travis has been validating the simple ones by hand for the time being. (I have thousands of marked Events pending review and/or validation.)
The event you mark will validate automatically if others viewing the same video mark the same event within 5 (or 10?) seconds for the beginning and end times. It's quite time consuming and tedious but I think the results they are able to report are "good science".

To start, try watching these 3 clips >> http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/forum_thread.php?id=588#2898
OR >> http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/wildlife/sharptailed_grouse_training.php

I should point out that The KWSN are the #1 bird watchers Shocked

A couple of side notes:

All the videos you mark Events for are reviewable and partially correctable.
You can change start and end times for any Event you make a mistake on or rename Events, but you can't create new Events after initial viewed video has been submitted.

If you are using IE for a browser it will inaccurately report the end time for the last Event in most videos by about 20 seconds so those events won't validate until you review the video and alter the end time manually, which is a total pain in the butt. Much better to just use Chrome or Firefox to view the videos. If you know how to use VLC, it works great to enlarge the picture or view "frame by frame" for the difficult, complicated or super quick Events.

If you spot an African Sparrow dropping coconuts on Sharp Tail Grouse nests, please notify the project biologists immediately.
(This is normal behavior for the European Swallow.)

A new paper has been accepted and published on Wildlife@home for the 15th International Conference on Computational Science (http://www.iccs-meeting.org/iccs2015/).

http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/wildlife/publications/2015_iccs_wildlife.pdf

....................................................
There has been NO mention as to the regularity of Coconut bombing Sparrows
visiting Sharp Tail Grouse nests in North Dakota...
Perhaps with more KWSN participating in the tedious nest viewing we could generate this data and demand that this information be included in the next paper.

Citizen Science Grid with Wildlife@home, DNA@home and SubsetSum@home will move this week.
We will know soon enough if it was a success.
WU for these programs should start being generated soon after the move.
The server they are moving to will have a ton more storage and room for all those huge wildlife@home video files.
This should make everything run a lot smoother for all three programs. Onward and upward.

... wow. sure scary seeing BOTH webpages disappear.

For Wildlife@home DNA@home and SubsetSum@home:

Remove Citizen Science Grid from BOINC Manager

Re-add Citizen Science Grid as:
