TheSkyNet POGS is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in astronomy. We will combine the spectral coverage of GALEX, Pan-STARRS1, and WISE to generate a multi-wavelength UV-optical-NIR galaxy atlas for the nearby Universe. We will calculate physical parameters such as: star formation rate, stellar mass of the galaxy, dust attenuation, and total dust mass of a galaxy; on a pixel-by-pixel basis using spectral energy distribution fitting techniques.

Patience, branjo, your credits are there! Once you cross the next milestone, which is 1.4 million, you'll show up on the 'Stones list here...

We have obtained a large quantity of our secret weapon for the challenge:

You can start "bunkering" anytime this week if so inclined, otherwise just keep on shrubbing.
It is a team challenge from Astronomy.Ru Forum to mark Galileo Galilei - 450th birthday.
It's a one week challenge that starts 2014-02-15 05:00 UTC .
We are in pretty good shape to place fairly high among the 27 teams entered. #ni-1

Embarrassing question: how does a Knight bunker, by suspending the WU shortly before completion?

Because I only have one slow computer, and the POGS files only have a 7 day completion time (due date), that's how I'm doing it.
I Suspend each file I catch at around 80 to 85 % ,, then Resume them all to get more from an Update.
However, you could run a Boinc client on more than one OS if you are dual booting (or Quad booting) and grab a big buncha files. Then use your firewall rules to stop the completed WU's from reporting by IP Blocking until just after the challenge starts, when you would change the up/down rule on your firewall.
**Here is an example for bunkering by IP Blocking for Coconuts@Home with Win7. The IP range would be different, of coarse for each Program.
============================================================================
SETTING UP A RULE WITH WINDOWS FIREWALL for WIN7

CONTROL PANEL > WINDOWS FIREWALL > Advanced Settings
On the left side of the panel
OUTBOUND RULES
On right side of panel
NEW RULE
CUSTOM - NEXT
All Programs - NEXT
NEXT
Under "Which remote IP addesses does this rule apply to?"
THESE IP ADDRESSES - ADD
THIS IP RANGE
From 128.95.160.0
To 128.95.160.255
OK - NEXT
Block the connection - NEXT
check Domain, Private, Public - NEXT
Name your rule ie BLOCK Coconuts@Home - FINISH

You're done

To REMOVE the rule go to OUTBOUND RULES, highlight the rule, then on the right side click on DELETE and then YES.
==============================================================================

**note that you need to calculate approximately how many files you will need to get to last you until the challenge starts, and then change your Preferences on the server before before you get them... all before you set the IP Rule

That is correct.

You must first resume each task that you have suspended to get an update, then when you get more tasks, re-suspend the ones you want to save and start shrubbing the rest until each of those reach a high completion percentage, then individually suspend each of them... rinse and repeat.

It's as easy as washing coconuts and every bit as time consuming and messy.

OK I see now, you even had the word resume in bold previously. Embarassed
Well that seems a bit fussy to deal with over the next 3-4 days, maybe I'll do this on Friday...

Can't we have only 10 WU's per CPU core in the same time?

Yes , that's true as well. 40 is my limit with one client on an AMD 4 core.
Getting finished tasks in the "Validation Pending" column is an effort that runs concurrent with "hording" those 40 for the start.
With more than one operation system and more than one client available, you could fill up the 10/core limit for as many clients as you have, even if they are on the same computer as on a dual boot computer with more than one OS

* 40 tasks in POGS is almost 2 days work for "my old box". My run times are mostly over 2 1/2 hours each. So, by "Bunkering" these at about 85%, I add that day and a half work to the 7 day challenge.

** For the 3rd SETI WOW! challenge in August, I will use the "IP Blocking" bunker method for a full 3 weeks ahead of the challenge.

I expect we will do QUITE WELL in this months theSkyNet POGS challenge. #ni-1

Thanks JJ #ni-1

For my rig and PC, max-tasks take something like 10 hours, so my only bunkering is ValPen prison #ni-2

It's sneaking up on us, the challenge starts at midnight EST U.S. tonight....
28 teams in competition.

On edit:
And now we're off and shrubbing. I bunkered only about 23 WU's, but I s'pose every lil bit helps...

After Day One we have taken 5th place in a field of 28.
Perhaps we will do better as other teams slack off in their confusion about shrubbery placement.
