I would like to report passing 5,000,000 Total points.
4,000,000 on GPUgrid.
99.95 percentile in RAC
As Sir Worf of Klingon said,
"Today is a good day to die."

If you two chaps weren't such good eggs, I might think you were taking the mick out of the poor old King's Own. _________________

But Rabbit, I could be merely a "Flash in the pan".
You have endurance and consistency. Of you, it cannot be said, "Och, its only a wee bunny." _________________

I got lucky. I build and repair PCs for my friends and neigbours as a small side business. This produces self-financing for PCs/GPUs. Then I found a second hand 580 GTX. _________________

Oh, the GPU will be comming, so long as the current version of BOINC will play nice with Optimus on a laptop that uses more then 1 GPU (aka Intel's on the CPU and the GT650, which is where BOINC should be running it).... The laptop is still in production though, and though I can/have built desktops before, laptops are a lil different. I don't think they even have a standardized case and components one could get to self make a laptop. Seems a bit different then desktops where as long as both the case and mobo, and PSU are all ATX for instance, one knows they'll play.... Never heard of form factors for laptops tbh
Now browsing a bit someone got this to play on 7.1.x beta of BOINC client, but not sure about 7.0.28, lower version number though their beta they downloaded in dec 2011.... Hmm, well if it doesn't detect it properly (aka only sees the Intel GPU), I'll have to go looking for pre-release client versions, it working with the GPU and detecting Optimus properly is kinda a required feature of the client in the near future.... I'd rather a few bugs, then no GPU crunching on said system GPU crunching is just that big of a deal wrt the difference compared to CPU crunching... _________________

You have my admiration, I've built dozens of desktops but never even tried to build a laptop. _________________

Nah, I ordered it, I'm not sure you can really build a laptop in the same way.... Problem is they seem rather non-standard which is to say I never heard of a form factor for a laptop, what I was getting at. If the case is custom designed to what hardware they're putting in it, it's not the same as buying a case, making sure the motherboard will fit the case (aka matching the form factor), and one has a compliant PSU....
Desktops are open to self building, because there are standards to make sure that when you buy different components, one will know they can play together as long as they follow the same standard. Without standardization, self building laptops would sort of be out. Even if one bought matching components from the same OEM, the purpose of having them NOT put it together would be mote, if one can't cherry pick components from different vendors, etc.... If the case and board have to be designed to one another, then one knows that that they will need to be bought in tandem, which would reduce the number of choices (different combinations) one could build. This, IMO would elliminate much of the benefit to building one's own, hence making the whole matter mote. I ordered from an OEM.... It's in production there, waiting to be shipped _________________
