So, I see the ning site is still active. SHoE, did you pay out of pocket to keep it up? Should we pass the hat to cover some costs? Maybe we should start to play over there more often and really start kicking the tires.

edit: Nevermind, just saw the note on the site: This Ning Network will go offline if a plan hasn't been selected by August 20, 2010.

You saw it correctly. No costs, and my hat is full of bananas anyway. Smile

I think Ning might still be an option, but it's a bit pricey given that various sources other the same things for free (maybe not all in one spot). I'm part of another well run Third-level Ning network (http://social.consimworld.com/), but I'll now sure who/what is funding it.

Given the recent bump in activity here, I am beginning to wonder if what we REALLY need to get this forum hopping again here might be more goats.

I looked at ning last year when I was going for an interview with socialgo (ning were a competitor)....

...I like our forum as it is...all this extra 'social network' tosh is frankly blx...but if we decide to move with the times then there is always the annexe to hang out in (alone).

I've heard of it but I'm not quite sure how it works or what the security issues are.

Ooh, FRIENDFACE! We can meet people, play games and get addicted to some weird cola drink.
BTW, if I get to be elected as Employee of the Month I want the box with the internet in it. I'd like to impress everyone at the meeting with my vast knowledge of the I.T. Department.

I'm still a fan of upgrading something. Even if it is just getting the latest version of phpBB or moving to SMF. If we don't go as far as getting all the bells and whistles, that's fine. But I would like to have big comfy leather couches with cupholders for all the PGGBs!

Hmm yeah when we moved to the new server I did promise the possibility of upgrading things. The move actually happened quicker than expected so we didn't have time to do much except a direct copy. Then I got busy with bicycle rides and such. But yeah this place could use a few new drapes. I will try to throw something up to a testing domain in the near future. I do have another bicycle ride this weekend though... but it's only 67 miles so no biggie Smile

When KWSN breaks the RC5-72 encryption code, the $1K. in team prize money should help with additional furniture or at least in patching that leak in the roof right behind you there...
