Start getting ready, this challenge begins 4/22 at 2:00 p.m. EST (U.S.) or 18:00 UTC.

Quote:
To participate in the Challenge, please select only the 321 Prime Search (LLR) project in your PrimeGrid preferences section. Application builds are available for Linux 32 bit, Windows 32 bit and MacIntel. These applications will be sent to 64 bit clients. As with all LLR application projects, there is no advantage of 64 bit over 32 bit.

NOTE: In your PrimeGrid preferences section, set "Send work from any subproject if selected projects have no work" to no to guarantee that no other work will be sent.

They are not that bad...RAM requirements aren't the big...they just take a while to complete...

when ever I run them on the 940 the comp freezes and I have to disconnect the power to get it back.
Earlier today I ran out all the work except prime grid ( no 321's yet ) and I just got home and the damn thing is hosed...

Windows 7 won't boot, says I need to repair with the disk, and when I try it says I need a new hard drive...

It won't boot into the Xp on another disk and the 640 gig drive has gone blank.

If chkdsk c: /F /R doesn't fixit I will try another mother board and we will see.

Not saying it is PrimeGrid, But it is a major coincidence...

Yeah I'm leery of these 321s for a similar reason. It took about 3 minutes to come out of a coma, but was OK once that happened. Would it be worth setting the processor useage to say 90%?

(Sir Smurph you might try shutting the system down properly and leaving it off for an hour or so. I lucked out with that recently, have no idea why.)

But the challenge doesn't start until 1800UTC...only WUs downloaded after 1800UTC count...

As far as problems go, I found out that one of my PCs has to have the OC turned off...last June's LLR challenge showed me that...all WUs done on that Q9300 were invalid....

Oh, and my high speed is out at my home...if it isn't back by 1800UTC, I will be down 30 cores to start....

I have a Work Unit at almost 60%, but I am sure it will NOT be done by 1800 UTC - Am I correct I simply 'Suspend' the WU and download new ones after the start? I would really hate to dump this just for jumping in at the start... I can resume it later and still beat my 01 May deadline, I hope...

(I have not been in this predicament before - So forgive the old 'Newbie'...)

That should be OK...you might have to up the cache to get more work, but that would be the only problem...

I had fits with these WU's last time and plan to sit this one out. Less than half of what I turned in were valid. That's a huge waste of resources.

Last June?? That was PSP LLR, and those are beasts...the 321 are a bit better...

Yeah, I'm probably mixing those two up. I'll try a couple of machines and see how it goes.

321 LLR are much easier to work than the PSP's..

I would not recommend overclocking however, they do tend to heat up the cores a bit more..

getting ready for the kick-off in 10 minutes..

Yeah, it does that. Its a new 'feature' of BOINC that it wont grab new WU if you got some suspended. It is irritating, I had to abort a few PPS LLRs to get it to grab some of the 321 LLRs at the start of the challange.

That is funny. I got Time Warner as well, and my service (internet/phone/TV) was out as well for a while a bit ago. At least my cable modem synced back up a couple of minutes before the challenge started.

I'm one percent done with 27 minutes so far...
Maybe I'll be done by the end of the Challenge! LOL!

I'm in and should have two more machines in the race soon.

They only take 13 hours each, so the old ones will finish soon enough.
