I only have Vista on 2 Laptops...
I find it fairly stable but what I have against it is DRM. What I keep on my box is MY Business....
Not to mention it is Paranoid...."you want to do what?....oh my god...Oh My God...OH MY GOD...OH MY GOOOODDD"

I've got home premium on three machines (1x32, 2x64) and home basic on another and they have been very stable with SP1. The 64 Ult machine has gets unstable every time MS comes out with a new security patch. Friday night/Saturday morning it locked up several times and it turned out to be a conflict with a driver that has been on the machine since September. The DRM and paranoia are also very irritating, but I don't see that going away with Win 7. _________________

The price is right in the range of some of the more expensive 4870's. Might not be a bad way to go. _________________

GO I hope they remove that *$@^ from windows 7! Or at the very least provide a way to disable it as an option. I can't stand it asking me if I really want to do something. If I didn't want to do it I wouldn't have done it in the first place. _________________
And a few that won't update for some reason.

I agree with Sir Papa. I won't use vista at all because of drm. If windows7 has it, I'll keep the discs if I get them, but the machine will be running linux. I despise drm with a passion.

I'm not sure why they think it's helping anyone. My wife is not a very experienced user and went from XP to Vista. For the first couple of weeks after she got a new computer every time that thing came up she thought she had done something wrong.
At least it doesn't ask for your password every time you try to do something like Linux. _________________

That can be fixed with permissions. Unfortunately you have to be a bit more knowledgeable to set it up, but the newer versions do it sessions now. Ask you once and remember that they've already asked you until you've been idle for some period of time. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I'm in the process of learning it, and not going very fast. The first time it asked me "are you root?" and wouldn't let me into a folder I thought the thing was insane, but I'm starting to understand it a little more. _________________

It's very security oriented. And fast. Once you learn it you'll just look at windows and go WHY.
The new windows 7 experience is based off of KDE. So linux is evil, but lets copy them.
yeaaaaaaaaaaah.

I'm still plugging away at it and I'm sure it will be worth it. _________________

This looks like an interesting way to cool GPUs.
Vista - I've got three Vista Home m/cs that won't let me go up(?) to SP1 and keep my network connection , and that's with 3 different m/b makers (Gigglybyte, MSRI & Assus). I'm tempted to upgrade them to Jaunty Jackelope, but having given Bill £50 each, I'm durned if I'm not going to get my money's worth. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Same as the ones I've already got. No doubt they'll be updated "in the fullness of time". But everything works, and I'm not too concerned about security as they only shrub. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.
