Help please. I am not sure what I did this time. However, it seems that I cannot sent results or receive new work units for LLRnet. I am not able to get to the website. Does anyone know if I have missed some major announcment concerning LLRnet?

I don't know, but the stats at Free-DC haven't been updated for 6 days now, so I think it's just some downtime on the Riesel site. (I've also seen a lot of flack about the BOINC RieselSieve site in the BOINCstats shoutbox, which tends to reinforce that.)

Reading between the lines (i.e, pure supposition), I rather suspect it's vacation time, and whoever's left doesn't know what to do.

Thank you Al. So I will put this out to everyone.

What should I run on my system? I need something that I do not have to put a lot of time in. I remember running BOINC when that first came out and that was tooooo much of a headache. Any suggestions on what I can run on my PC? Please remember: I am PC illiterate. So it has to be something that is easy to install/maintain. Smile

Boinc is easy if you use a boinc manager like Boinc stats. Just set it up and then you can choose the %'s for each project you want to run, up to 1000 projects.

set is pretty easy and if one project goes down no big deal if you have another at 1% or even a couple.

OK. Detailed destructions for BOINCing.

Download the BOINC software from here. (and install it!)

During the install, tick "Start BOINC whenever my computer boots up". At the end tick "Run BOINC now"

That brings up a pretty (but fairly useless) display. Go to "Advanced" view.

Go to "Tools/Attach to project..."

Select a project from the list (if it's not on the list, copy & paste the url).

Enter your e-mail address and a password. Use the same e-mail for all projects you join and your scores will link up with each other.

BOINC Manager will take you to a page on the project's site to complete your registration. Fill in your BOINC name (Lady DC, I assume) and join KWSN (search for a team contaning "The" is the easiest way to find us).
Personally, I set my preferences to contact the project every ¼ day, and grab an extra 1 day's work; that allows the project to go down for a day without running out of work.

Preferably attach to another 1 or 2 projects, in case they go down for longer. You can adjust the proportion of shrubbing each project gets in "Project preferences". (If you go to the Projects page of BOINC Manager and select a project, there will be a link to at least the projects home page in the LH column).

Suggested projects (all fairly stable) where KWSN could do with a bit more effort:

Leiden Classical - Chemistry
MalariaControl - Looking for ways to limit the spread of Malaria
MilkyWay@Home - Mapping our Galaxy
Poem@home - Protein folding
Prime Grid - as it says
QMC@HOME - Quantum chemistry
Rectilinear Crossing Number - Mathematics project (although it's a bit flaky this weekend)
Rosetta@Home - The daddy of the protein folding projects
Sztaki@Home - Binary number systems
TANPAKU - Japanese protein folding
uFluids - Fluids in space (will overload your machine with work at first, but sorts itself out after a day or two).
World Community Grid - Several protein-type tasks.
Yoyo@home - A wrapper for 3 non-boinc projects (longish work units)

If you really can't face BOINC, you could try:
TSC - Childhood diseases
Wieferich@Home - Prime numbers
Neither is difficult to set up.

Thank you Al. I was on BOINC a long time ago (when it first went live for Seti). I tried to find my name on the Seti stats but was unable to find it.

I still have my account id that was sent to me. Is there any way to correlate that account id that was sent to me and whatever my name was back then? Of course, I will have to reinstall (I assume with that original account id) BOINC.

Oooh, dunno about that, Missus - that's something I've never tried to do. Maybe one of the "real" old-timers can help you.

Best of luck and a hearty #ni-1

You could go to Boinc Synergy and use that to generate your Sig graphic and that would tell you the name....

Well, after going through the files from my old system, I found what was my old name. Of course, I have changed it. I was fortunate that I remembered the old email address and password. So with some help from Al Dente and one of our illustrious leaders, I am able to start BOINCing again. I decided to go back to my old stomping grounds and do some Seti. I also chose Rosetta. Why? I have no clue. Just sounded good. I even figured out my CPID so that I could make a pretty sig. Smile I miss my LLRnet though. It was the only thing that I was ever #1 with. Oh well, at least it was fun while it lasted. As I do more research, I may find other projects that I may be interested in.

Thank you for the help and ideas.

There was a news-feed item a while back.

So it may return at some time in the future, but don't hold your breath.
