8 CPU's? Shocked

Is that one of those server boards I have been drooling over?

the ones with four cpu's? Cool

it's one of these.... http://www.apple.com/macpro/ so two quad core CPU's, it's a very good workstation, that's very quiet, you just have to get used to OSX, but you can put XP or vista on it if you really want to, but what's the point?

Mmm, dual quad core Xeons with 32GB of RAM. I approve. Too bad it probably cost as much as my last car.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do for my next system. Debating between a faster per-core chip which would likely help most current software and games more than more cores, or going with a slower per-core chip with more cores in anticipation of stuff that'll actually use it besides BOINC hehe.

Pretty much between the $209 E8400 (Wolfdale Core 2 Duo) @ 3.0 GHz, and the $279.99 Q9300 (Yorkfield Core 2 Quad) @ 2.5 GHz. The E8500 hasn't made it's appearance yet, but the "next up" quad has, the 9450 but it's $80 more for only .16 GHz more so I dunno about that.

That's because it's got a 12MB cache, rather than 8MB in the 9300.

and with high repeatable processes such as DC, that would mean a big performace increase abouve just the Mhz....
