It will only beep if the BIOS starts up. If the chip is dead, you'll get nowt. If you have another mobo of the same type, swap the chip if it's in an LCC.

1-1-4 is the code for a BIOS chip failure. Any other code you get is for the mobo (look it up). I assume you have swapped out CPU and RAM, and so won't beep these codes.

Also try the CMOS battery. Swap one from another mobo.

Cheers BC.

Right, i've located the problem with these boards.. i turns out that the memory controller is at fault on both boards #evil

It seems as thou DIMM slots 1 and 2 have given up the ghost.. The boards are both now working, but only in single channel mode (slots 3 and 4).

I don't know how this will impact on ppd (badly im assuming), just installing linux on them at the mo with a pair of E2160's i had laying around.

Cheers,

Rich.

I was having heat problems after upgrading my dual dual-core Xeon to dual quad-core. CPUs were running 80 deg when folding.

I just fitted water cooling. Used two D-tek Fusion blocks, a twin 120mm rad, and an MCP655 pump (the one that does 1200 litres per hour).

Amazingly, the temps have come down by more than 20 deg, compared to the after market air coolers I was using.

I have the same pump and rad cooling a single QX6700, and it runs at 67 deg rather than 58 deg. Also in this loop I have two CPUs rather than one.

Conclusion - the D-tek Fusion blocks are MUCH better than the Swiftech Apogee GT.

I'm running the same pump, triple rad with a swiftech GT @ 3.5 only gives 56-57ºC and it is in the same loop as a oc'ed 8800GTX. 1/2" tubing
