As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming
1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health.

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service. #ni-1

1000/365,000= 2.7 mgram a day. Still a ridiculous amount. I guess the story is only true if you drink the water from a canal next to a sewage treatment plant.

edit: ehm... sorry 'da Griz' calculations made me dizzy Wink

How about 1000/365? 2.7 gram a day. Smile

I simply don't believe that amount.

This is a 2.7 gram tube of Arcti Silver-Ceramique. I can't believe that that there are that many colonies of bacteria in tap water and that we could not see them.

If the vessel of water/amout of water was small enough, then you would see them because they would be concentrated into the small area.

As it is, that amount of matter is spread out through a year's consumption of water, therefore that amount imbibed at any one time is small enough to not be seen.

No, that is not correct. 1 Kilogram divided by 365 days is 2.7 grams per day. The statement said one liter of water per day, which would mean 2.7 grams of E. coli per liter.

While I can accept that there is contamination in tap water I can't accept that there is that much of just E. coli, even dead. I can however accept that there is roughly 2.7 grams of dissolved solids per liter, but this would include numerous elements and compounds both soluble and insoluble.

We all know that water conducts electricity but did you know that pure H2O does not.
The reason that tap water conducts is because of contamination of soluble ions that actually allow the electrons to pass thru them.

Very Happy Well, Yes I am a chemist and have worked in labs for 30 years, so I am familiar with the conductivity of H2O...

Health Dept. regulations allow for about 1000 mg/L of mineral impurities in public drinking water (most sources are less than that, but not San Angelo, TX! Mad ). The water is tested daily for E coli, two positive tests in a row requires the water utility to notify its customers that they need to boil their water until the problem is sorted out...

There could easily be 2.7 grams of dissolved and suspended solids in untreated surface water but I also can't believe there would be that much in normal city tap water...

I also find the numbers hard to believe. E. Coli isn't the only bacteria out there, and if there were 2.7 grams/liter of E. Coli alone, then how much more other bacteria is in there? (Likely many times that).
I don't find this creditable, nor do I need any excuse to drink wine. Wink

Also, one technical point: E. Coli is not poop, it eats poop. There is no accounting for taste! Razz

If E.coli eats poop;
then why would it be in clean water?
what does it consist of?
what in its "stomach"?

So...
E.Coli eats poop, therefore eating E.Coli is eating poop. Confused

Cows eat grass, therefore eating hamburgers is like eating salad! Surprised

As usual, logic in these Inturnet facts are flawless

Maybe it's on holiday? (More likely it's spores out looking for more poop)

What's in its stomach is what was in yours. (but technically, they don't have stomaches.) Confused
