Ok. I just don't get it.
I have a Amd Athlon 64 2800+ clawhammer with XP Pro Sp2 running Boinc and it keeps stopping. The boinc manager is up and running but the work is not being processed. This is happening with Einstein, WCG and Rosetta. The task manager shows the unit but the System idle process is taking all the Cpu cycles. The only way I can get it to keep crunching is to suspend the running unit and then Task manager shows 2 rosettas and if I resume the unit it still will not run the unit, even restarting the machine will not get it to keep running the unit. I have the newest manager 5.8.16 it is installed as a service and has the same settings as all of my other comps. Right now rosetta has run 1:45 and System Idle Process has run 38:40. It was running when I left town and I just got back. I even uninstalled Boinc and reinstalled it last week to no avail.
Suggestions would be appreciated.......
I have lost at least a couple of hundred hours of shrubbing on this machine
Update: I suspended the first unit as it had only run 1:43
the second unit ran 2:33 and then stopped so I suspended that one too.
the third unit ran 29 seconds and then stopped. WTF _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Probably of no relevance in this case, but I had a similar-sounding problem with a brand-new Vista machine, which had me scratching my head for a few days. Until, that is, I happened to notice during a re-boot that the BIOS clock hadn't been set, which immediately cured it. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Darn....
That Ain't it, I just checked.......
Btw: Since my original post I suspended the first 3 wu's and it has now done 3hours 13 min of work. Of course that is in a period of about 26 hours. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Check your prefs on the project pages to make sure your default prefs aren't messed up? Maybe run only when idle, only use 2% memory, 1% cpu, something like that. _________________

I give. I am just going to make that one a linux box. I only use it for shrubbing anyway, so why have a full install of xp. Besides it runs 24/7 and only has a rac of 8.29. A complete waste of energy.

I have heard something about a Long Term Debt build up causing similar things. If you are running multiple projects on that box, you might want to check the status of the Debts. _________________

I don't have the slightest clue how to begin to look for such a thing?
Pray tell, how do I do it....... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
