Dead woman wins county commissioner's race
S.D. candidate gets 100 votes; official says voters knew she was deceased
PIERRE, S.D. - A woman who died two months ago won a county commissioner's race in Jerauld County on Tuesday.
Democrat Marie Steichen, of Woonsocket, got 100 votes, defeating incumbent Republican Merlin Feistner, of Woonsocket, who had 64 votes.
Jerauld County Auditor Cindy Peterson said she believes the county board will have to meet to appoint a replacement for Steichen. Peterson said she'll check with the state's attorney to be sure that's the process.
Peterson said voters knew Steichen had died.
"They just had a chance to make a change, and we respect their opinion."

I've heard of beating a dead horse but you'd think you could beat a dead woman as well .

Farty - it's about the only time she wouldn't complain........
How must it feel to be the guy that lost to a dead person?
I like the part where they think they will have to meet to appoint a replacement. What else could they possibly do? Leave her up on the table? She would cast the silent vote I guess..... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

close, it's about as much fun as a skin rash after some French sexual perversion...
Smack dab in the middle of SD, the middle of nowhere. {I grew up about 20 miles (~32 km for you wrong-side-of-the-pond-ers) from Woonsocket.} And it's pronounced "pee-er" not "pee-air" like the French guy.

Great to hear they have 100% voter turnout, impressive. _________________ Don't get distracted by shiny objects.

Actually, Seejay just a couple of points.....
1) Colombus did not discover this place. It was inhabited long before he got here. If you insist on it being discovered by someone from over there, you might want to give the credit a bit further north. A few vikings made their way across the ocean before old Chris C. found that the path to India wasn't a straight line.
2) I'd rather be on this side of the ocean that that side. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

On the bright side, Florida is back in the recount business.
I'm thinking UN observers for anything held in Florida. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Well, the history books tell us that MAYBE the vikings got to the American continent before the rest, but as you rightly say Cristofero Colombo bumped into it by mistake, believing it to be " The Indies ".
Why do you prefer to be over there rather than over here?
Over here is actually quite nice, you know. There are lots of mentally unstable people to talk to, even though you guys nearly have a monopoly on nutters.
Half ( if not, more ) of your cities are named after European ones, and the others have names like Woonsocket.
Anyway, enough with this nationalistic crap.... SHRUB FOR PREZ. IN '08!! _________________ A Shrubbery For Prez!

Unless they are counting in your favor without the help!
Seejay wrote: | Well, the history books tell us that MAYBE the vikings got to the American continent before the rest |
The history books MIGHT say that, but the Archeological eveidence proves it! They took the England to Iceland to Greenland to Newfoundland to Nova Scotia route.

I'm going to answer this one with a question....If every other place is so great, why does it seem that every one is trying to get into here instead of out of here?
Seejay wrote: | There are lots of mentally unstable people to talk to, even though you guys nearly have a monopoly on nutters. |
Crazy people are a universal constant.
Seejay wrote: | Half ( if not, more ) of your cities are named after European ones, and the others have names like Woonsocket.

That is because of the mad rush to get over her by people from over there in the last 500 years. They lacked the imagination to come up with new names, and you can forget changing a name, oh the paperwork involved....
