It turns out the Keeping Up Appearances wasn't her first acting job. She did record an album though. ( http://imdb.com/name/nm0746151/ )

It doesn't detract from the wonderful job she did as Hyacinth.
Yay! Today's Friday! There are 2 episodes on PBS tonight! At 8:00 & 8:30 (NYC time). Then followed by 2 episodes of As Time Goes By. Love that show too. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0105943/) _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I've watched a few eps of As Time Goes By and quite enjoyed them, but my mother got into that one more than I did.
This might be a bit before your time, but I remember watching The Goodies every afternoon after school. Hilariously funny, sort of silly Pythonesque type humour without the rude bits. Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie, and Graeme Garden. _________________ My brain hurts.

If I may butt in here, one of the few things I do not like about living in France is that they dub pretty well all the foreign movies. Try looking at Humphrey Bogart speaking French! And so there is no way I will ever enjoy Madame Bouquet again, because if they ever showed it here, it would be dubbed and therefore impossible to watch. When I lived in Toronto, we had whole evenings on PBS of these marvelous sitcoms. I love Daisy, too, but the original, not the (somewhat) look-alike that came later.
So I stick with books and wine and the occasional DVD of some old-time black and white American film (when they still made good movies and we did not have to put up with the likes of Tom Cruise) _________________

Michelle, from what I read, The Goodies was right in my timeline (being 37 and all), but it appears to have been shown in the wrong country. I'm in NYC (always have been in fact). When I was little I used to watch Sesame Street (http://imdb.com/title/tt0063951/), now my kids watch it. Most of the characters are still there, but it has changed.
My wife got me into Keeping up Appearences (and she will never let me forget it either). As Time Goes By comes on after it. One night we were to lazy to get up to get the remote (NOW THAT IS LAZY ) and As Time Goes By came on and we watched it (having no choice and the remote was all the way over by the TV and we weren't). Since then we have been watching it.

Bellator, feel free to butt in any time. As for Tom Cruise, I can't stand him. Of the few movies of his that I have seen, I haven't cared for a single one of them. So I don't see ANY of them now. Makes it easier to avoid him. Now if I could get the media to forget about him, all would be good. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

How is it going and is it any good? |
No problem! It's been great so far. Torchwood is introduced through the eyes of Gwen, a policewoman (PC) in Cardiff. It's not unlike the way Eccleston's Doctor was introduced through the eyes of Rose Tyler, and just as effective. After the first episode, it really gets going with the focus on the Torchwood team. With one exception (episode 4, "Cyberwoman") it has been every bit as good as the last season of Doctor Who. "Cyberwoman", while ok, was trying too hard IMO to lay some real emotional turmoil on a premise that was a bit of a stretch, and campy to boot. I just don't think it measured up. Captain Jack isn't as even-keeled as he was on DW, which is an interesting choice by the writers, but he is still charismatic when he isn't being a bit irascible. There have been hints to his backstory that may eventually explain the change.
I think that's about as far as I can go, keeping it spoiler-free. SciFi fans in general, and Who fans in particular, will definitely enjoy this show.
Enjoy!
