Greetings and to you Sir Magnus Barelegs!
2 things:
1) Always remember rule # 4
2) I dare you so smoke me.. Go on...blow right by me in the rankings. I bet you process so many shrubberies that you help get the team climbing in the ranks!

Well when I looked yesterday, I was in the bad end of the top 500 for the team.
Now I'm in the top 200.
And looking at some of my hosts, they are sitting on a nice pile of completed shrubs to upload.
My RAC was in the 20's yesterday. Should be in the 200's when I get back to work in the morning. Should be much higher still once I sustain this rate for awhile. _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

Sir Magnus........
Distributed computing is worthwhile and taking part in a team is good fun but, a word of caution........
I take it that you don't use thses machines to run Half life 2 on at home
and that someone else probably provided the funds to buy them and pays for the electricity to power them, probably to do something they want to do with them!
and that person/entity is probably your employer
so please. please, make sure you have permission to run Seti on these boxes, some companies a funny like that, especially as the client apps are downloaded from the internet by the boinc software automatically......
We don't want you to loose your job, having fun looking for aliens..........

Luckily I am one of the IT geeks and I work in a research lab where bad behavior is to be expected. The only thing they ever really dinged me for was running TOR and even then it was a matter of "we can't tell what this is so shut it off please... it frightens us". And that was the end of the matter.
My employer does have a BOINC team but I don't think they would be anywhere near as fun to participate with _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

Hmm I guess I won't have to wait that long. It's there already and I haven't even had supper yet.
On the downside, orca was throwing thermal alerts when I got home so it was straight back out to the computer store to get a couple of case fans. _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

are you using the optimised seti clients?
our very own Chicken of Angnor (simon Zadra) , aka savant round here, has some seti clients for linux that perform better than the one you get from Seti@home
http://lunatics.at/
tells you all about it. I reckon your up to the challenge of compiling your own if your distro isnt supported..

Crikey! Walk away for a few hours and I hit #142 (RAC). Top 100 easily tomorrow. Those big SMP machines at work are configured to minimize their use of the network so they will just upload boatloads of shrubs from time to time. I know a couple of them were sitting on nice piles of shrubs when I left this afternoon.
Oh and the boss says I'm getting one of these with our end-of-the-year blitzkrieg spending. So, yeah, I do need to find some time to build a decent 64 bit Linux/POWER5 client. _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

Well, if you bore of finding aliens I've always been fond of http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp
and our team could definately use help there. We can't even break into the top 100. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

A couple of the big boxes dumped a bunch of shrubs off while I was sleeping.
RAC shot to 354.29
I'm now firmly in the top 100 for the team (RAC). No one expects... oh wait, wrong skit... _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

Yeah it does.
When I get the whole farm up I will pick & choose my project distribution more carefully.
On the downside, the lab manager looked at ra today and asked if I was doing anything with it, that he needed a midrange Sun box for some software testing. Ah well bona fide business use takes precedence over shrubbing. Ra is still up and running and may never go away but last time this guy came for a box, it was gone inside of a week. _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats

A Shrubbery-
The team got a late jump on WCG and is finding it hard to get up.

So WCG is completely outside of BOINC, right? Sounds like it is mutually exclusive of BOINC, if I understand it correctly. _________________ My S@H Profile - KWSN Stats
